Beginning Speech and Debate (6th Grade): This course is designed for incoming 6th graders to introduce the basics of presentation and communication skills. Students will learn proper presentation techniques (volume, eye contact, body language). Students will enhance their vocabulary through a series of exercises and quizzes. Students will write, create and present original presentations in a variety of genres including (but not limited to): Personal Narrative, Pet Peeve, and How-to. Participation and collaboration are important parts of this class. All students are expected to make several presentations in class as well as reflect on their work. Students will also have an opportunity to participate in two speech tournaments throughout the year.
